Gisela Christa Hildegard Seeling Wood, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and devoted friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 21, 2026, in Marietta, Georgia, at the age of 80.
She was born on September 27, 1945, in Lubow, Pommern, Germany. Gisela grew up amid the profound hardships and devastation of post-war Germany, experiences that shaped the quiet strength, resilience, compassion, and determination that would characterize her entire life.
At the age of 15, she immigrated to Georgia with her parents, Fritz and Marie. Upon arrival she started high school not knowing a word of English but picked it up quickly. She embraced the opportunities of new home with courage and optimism. Through her family’s Methodist church, she met her future husband, Fitz and together they built a home centered on faith, devotion, sacrifice, and love. While Fitz served in the United States Air Force, they welcomed their two sons, Kenneth and Robert, into the family. Later, their daughter Angela completed their family circle.
Gisela lived a life devoted to caring for others. She possessed a rare gift of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. No one remained a stranger for long in her presence. Her kindness, loyalty, warmth, and selflessness drew people naturally to her, and her friendships often endured for decades. Her hands and heart were always open to others.
Though her life included many challenges, she faced them with unwavering faith, determined effort, and enduring love. Alongside her family, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ throughout her life. She loved the Savior, His work, His children, and the holy temple. Her testimony and quiet faith blessed her family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz Seeling and Martha Maria Magdalena Becker Seeling; her husband, Fitzhugh Lee Wood; and her grandson, Jacob Wood.
