Gregory Leon Dowdy

Gregory Leon Dowdy of Acworth, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025. Greg was born on February 16, 1960, in Rome, Georgia to Leon and Bobbie Dowdy. Greg grew up in Smyrna, Georgia and lived most of his life in Powder Springs, Georgia.

Greg was a 1978 graduate of Wills High School in Smyrna, Georgia, where he participated in the Key Club and Baseball. Following school, he worked for his family business and continued until his death in pressure washer and chemical sales.

Greg was married to Dawn Dowdy for many years who stayed with him until he drew his last breath. Together they had two beautiful children that he loved dearly.

Greg loved his three blessings the most, his grandchildren, Ansley, Dawson, and Lyla.

Greg obtained his pilot's license in 1986 and operated aircraft for several years. He especially loved flying his family to the Bahamas and taking many friends on trips throughout his flying years. Greg’s other passion was music. His favorite pastimes were playing drums, piano and singing with his dear friends Perry, Rex, and Kerry. Greg also loved helping so many along his journey.

Greg enjoyed spending his last three months with his sister, Janet Smalley, and brother-in-law, Keith, who often watched Jeopardy and episodes of 20/20 together. Greg and Janet reminisced of their times growing up together being only 25 months apart in age.

Greg was preceded in death by his son, Tyler Dowdy, (last November) and his sweet Daddy Leon, (1997). Together again!

Greg leaves behind his daughter, Melissa Reeves (Brandon), his grandchildren, Ansley and Dawson Reeves and Lyla Dowdy, his mother Bobbie Dowdy, his sister Janet (Keith) Smalley and his best friend Dawn Dowdy as well as several nephews and nieces.

Greg’s services will be presided over by Rodney Lesmez. His pallbearers will be Brandon Reeves, Jesse Smalley, Trent Smalley, Perry Cook, Rex Garner, Matt Hendricks.

The visitation for Greg will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, 6:00pm-8:00pm and Greg’s services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 2:00pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2950 Cobb Pkwy N, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. Greg will be laid to rest immediately following his service at The Piney Grove Cemetery, 1605 Mars Hill Road, Acworth, Georgia 30101.
