Gwendolyn "Gwen" Rembert Johnson, a beacon of love, faith, and unmatched generosity, went home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2026, at the age of 71.
Born on October 25, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama, Gwen was the cherished daughter of Amos and Idabelle Rembert. From a young age, her innate desire to care for others was evident, ultimately guiding her into a lifetime of service. Gwen dedicated 30 remarkable years to her community as a Licensed Practical Nurse before her well-earned retirement. Her healing hands and comforting presence touched countless lives across high-stakes environments like the ER, ICU, and Cardiac Unit, as well as through the gentle, dignified comfort she provided as a school nurse as she truly had a love for children.
Gwen’s life was deeply rooted in her unwavering faith. For 15 years, she was a dedicated and vibrant member of Now Faith International Church, where she did not simply sit in the pews—she ministered, shared the Gospel, and lived out her devotion to God every single day. She was a true prayer warrior, constantly lifting up her family, friends, and anyone in need to the Lord.
To know Gwen was to be looked after. As a natural caregiver, she possessed an incredible heart that refused to let anyone go without. If someone was hungry, she would go completely out of her way to ensure they had a warm meal. Cooking and baking were her love languages, and her kitchen was a place of pure joy. Her legendary banana pudding and red velvet cake brought smiles to every gathering, and her son Cordell especially held a deep love for her cooking. Gwen truly loved life, loved people, and made it her personal mission to leave everyone with a smile on their face.
Above all, Gwen’s greatest earthly joy was her family. Her children described her as an absolutely amazing mother, and she served proudly as their lifelong, ultimate cheerleader, celebrating their every victory with boundless enthusiasm. Her love multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, whom she adored fiercely.
Gwen’s vibrant legacy of love, laughter, and service lives on through those she leaves behind. She is survived by her beloved children; Tesh Johnson Liburd and husband Carl, Curtis Johnson, Jr., and Cordell Johnson; Her treasured grandchildren: Curtland Johnson, Carla Liburd, Andrew Liburd, Carson Liburd, Ava Johnson, and Carter Liburd Her loving brothers: Amos Rembert, Jr. and Fred Rembert; her husband: Curtis Johnson, Sr.; A host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
