

Hal attended Barbados Seventh-day Adventist Secondary School. He also went to Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) and then earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix. He also enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and then the Air Force Reserve. He worked as an aerospace flight engineer for over 40 years.
He married Audrey Kyte, in 1978. Through their marriage they had three children, Halecia, Akiva, and Joial.
He devoted many years of time and service to the Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church (Pomona, CA). He served as head deacon, elder, Pathfinder director and area coordinator, and in numerous capacities.
Hal's service to God and his community continued when he relocated to Georgia. He attended the Lakeview Seventh-day Adventist Church (Powder Springs, GA). He also attended the Atlanta Filipino International Seventh-Day Adventist Church (Powder Springs, GA) for a few years and was a valuable member while the church was being established. His commitment was to the local Pathfinders, food pantry, mentoring, and even preaching. It was during his time at Lakeview that he met Gleneth “Judy” Mahon. They married in September of 2025.
In his free time, he enjoyed riding his bicycle and staying physically fit. Photography was a beloved hobby. Hal loved to take his young family to air shows and on cross country summer trips. Later in life he enjoyed talking to his grandchildren. He always loved music, playing the guitar, harmonica, musical saw, bottles, pan flute, and singing in the church choir.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucetta Griffith, and brother, Evric Cumberbatch.
Hal leaves behind to carry on his legacy, children; Halecia Merritt (Christopher), Akiva Griffith (Melissa), and Joial. Grandchildren; Micah, Devin, Avery, Kendall, and Aiden. Wife; Judy and her children: Deidre, Sonja Stephen (Thomas), and Brent (Sylvia). Brother; Carl (Sandra); nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends.
The memorial service for Hal will be held in July. He will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery.
