Harold Joseph Hughes

Harold Joseph Hughes, affectionately known as PopPop, died peacefully In Kennesaw Georgia on March 3, 2018 at the age of 87. Harold is survived by his wife, Virginia Marie Hughes, his eight children, twenty grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Hughes of Carlstadt, New Jersey. Harold was born on May 18, 1930 in Passaic, New Jersey to Josephine Haefflinger and Francis Bernard Hughes. Upon graduating school, he served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Korean War after which he received a Korean Service Medal with a bronze star and a United Nations Service Medal. After eight years of military service, he began his career with Public Service Gas & Electric, and retired after thirty years of service. He and his second wife Ginny retired to Fort Pierce, Florida, spending many happy years in the Spanish Lakes Fairways community, where they loved tennis and were active members of St. Anastasia’s church. Harold (PopPop) will be remembered by his family and friends as a very sweet and loving man with an infectious laugh and generous spirit. He loved his boat, playing tennis, his friends and his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Fort Pierce, Florida at a date in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.org.
