She was born on September 10, 1939, in Culberson, North Carolina, to the late Wade and Myrtle Trull Anderson. Irene was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Franklin D. Earls; her cherished son, Dr. Edward Keith Earls; her brother, Charles Anderson; and her sisters, Emilou Dickey and Ruth Davis.
She is survived by her siblings Lewis Anderson, Lowell Anderson, Elizabeth Gladson, Carolyn Taylor, and Melissa Lynn; her daughter-in-law Dr. Allison Wansky; her adored grandchildren Skylar and Sam Wansky; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Irene retired from BellSouth, where her career began as a proud switchboard operator—a role she loved reminiscing about through her vibrant storytelling and treasured memories of connecting others. She was a faithful follower of Christ and a longtime member of Eastwood Baptist Church, where she formed deep friendships and enjoyed fellowship with her church family.
Irene also found joy in tending to growing things. She was an avid gardener and an active member of Skint Chestnut Garden Club and the African Violet Club, nurturing both plants and friendships with equal dedication and care.
Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the stories she shared, and the love she gave freely.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Irene’s honor to The Garden Club of Georgia.
