James Christopher Dixon, known to many as Chris, passed away on September 15, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on September 27, 1959, Chris was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, and carried with him throughout his life a steady devotion to faith, family, and the quiet responsibilities that define a life well lived.
Chris graduated from Augusta College in 1985 with a degree in journalism. He brought the same diligence and care to his work that he brought to the people he loved—showing, again and again, a thoughtful steadiness and a willingness to serve wherever he was needed.
For the last 14 years, Chris worked for the City of Douglasville, where he loved his job and valued the coworkers who shared his days. His work ethic was not something he spoke about; it was something he practiced—consistently, generously, and with a selfless sense of purpose.
Chris met his wife, Kessler, at church. After seven years of dating, they were married on June 14, 1986, and shared 40 years of marriage, raising three children together: Elizabeth Cobb, Bryant Dixon, and Blake Dixon. Chris was also a proud grandfather to Ashton Cobb and Devyn Dixon, and his grandchildren were the light of his life—an unmistakable joy he never tried to hide and never felt the need to diminish.
Chris loved traveling and camping, and he especially cherished vacationing in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where many family memories were made. He loved all kinds of music and listened to it constantly—filling ordinary moments with sound, comfort, and familiarity. Above all, Chris loved Jesus and his church, and his faith was a steady center that shaped how he lived and how he cared for others.
Chris devoted his life to caring for his mother, Janice Dixon, a commitment that reflected the depth of his character: attentive, giving, and unwavering. In every season, he was the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone—offering his time, his strength, and his presence without hesitation and without expectation.
Chris was preceded in death by his father, James Dixon. He is survived by his wife, Kessler; his children, Elizabeth Cobb (Luke), Bryant Dixon (Rachel), and Blake Dixon; his grandchildren, Ashton Cobb and Devyn Dixon; his mother, Janice Dixon; his brother, Michael Dixon; his great aunt, Mildred palmer; and lots of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Cedarcrest Church, 4600 Cobb Pkwy NW, Acworth, GA 30101, on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at Cedarcrest Church on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
