Janet Louise (Barley) Rooney, 97, of White, GA, left here to go to Heaven May 31, 2024. She was born October 25, 1926 to Lester and Florence (Brallier) Barley in Altoona, PA. It was there she met the love of her life, Francis L “Pat” Rooney. They married May 27, 1946. They moved several places including Baltimore, MD; Trussville, AL; St. Augustine, FL; Marietta, GA; and finally White, GA to retire. Together they raised 7 children and were grandparents to 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Janet worked for a brief time during WWII at a Five and Dime, but spent the majority of her life working hard as a Wife, Mom, and Grandmother. In addition to the daily chores of running a home, she made time to feed the family, carpool children to school, take kids to piano lessons, and volunteer as a Den Mother, Girl Scout helper, and Band Parent. Later in life, she also volunteered at the Catholic church thrift store.
Janet’s hobbies included Square Dancing with Pat at multiple clubs in GA and traveling after the kids were grown. They also enjoyed camping and boating for many years. Janet loved sewing clothes for herself and the kids. Later in life, she enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles. Playing cards and games was a hobby she enjoyed with family and friends all her life up through her final day when she asked, “What game do you want to play?” She was always up for a challenge playing Bridge, 31, Phase 10, or Mexican Train Dominoes. Good luck to those who tried to beat her. Many tried, but few succeeded.
Janet will always be remembered for the loving and caring Wife, Mom, Granny, Sister, Aunt and Friend that she was during her 97 years. She will be greatly missed.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Francis L “Pat” Rooney, her daughter Francine Rooney Burke, and her 5 siblings.
She leaves behind 6 children: Jane Tudor, Kathleen Reynolds (Ron), David Rooney (Mary Dee), Marilyn Rooney Mandish, Tom Rooney, and Teri Rooney. 8 Grandchildren: Jimmy (Mary), Tina, Michelle (Brandon), Dana (Travis), Jessica, Kirsten, Chris, and Pippa. 12 Great-grandchildren: Clay, Jake, Spike, Kate, Savannah, Katie, Ava, Ashli, Hunter, Tyler, Emily, and Darby.
