On January 24, 1957, Jimmy married the love of his life, Joyce Parker, and they had 3 children together. He served his country in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was a member of Powers Ferry Church of Christ. Jimmy was a devoted husband to his wife, Joyce, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
While attending West Jefferson High School in Alabama, he worked at night driving a coal truck. After the miners went on strike, he began his career as a salesman. He eventually worked for Shirley of Atlanta and in 1967, branched out to help start a successful ladies clothing manufacturing company, Mayer-Lang-Marquis, located in Atlanta Georgia. At Mayer-Lang-Marquis he served as Vice-President of Sales. Jimmy was well loved and never met a stranger. He was always willing to help those in need. Jimmy enjoyed spending quality time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Jimmy is survived by; son Jimmy Marquis Jr. and his wife Janet; daughters, Robin Hawk and her husband Larry, Tammy Marquis; grandchildren Jacob Hawk and wife Savanna, Jimmy Marquis III and wife Angela, Hilary Hawk, Bryant Marquis and his wife Kathryn, Katie Richardson and her husband Trey; great-grandchildren Sarah Grace Marquis, Emma Marquis, Scarlett Hawk, Jimmy Marquis IV, due in October, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Parker Marquis, and his parents, George and Louise Marquis.
The Family of Jimmy Marquis Sr. will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor the life of Jimmy will be held in the chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home at 3:00 PM immediately following the visitation. He will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM.
