Jo was blessed with parents who encouraged and supported women’s education in a time that was not commonplace. With her love of reading and history, she graduated from Peru University in Nebraska at the young age of 19 with a teaching degree and double major in English Literature and History. Jo worked on the school paper writing articles supporting equality. Her professors encouraged her to pursue a career in research, but she met her soulmate, Tom, who swept her off her feet. After college, she taught middle-school English and History in Omaha, Nebraska. In the mid 1970’s, the family moved to Clive, Iowa, where she lived until October 2016, and then moved to Kennesaw, Georgia to be near her youngest son and grandchildren. Jo retired from JCPenney Home Store, where she used her creative/decorative skills to help others. Jo and her husband Tom traveled the world together. She was well known for her Holiday feasts, especially her prime rib roast, ham, turkey, stuffing, gravy, cheesy potatoes, cherry pie, and pumpkin pie. She had an open heart and home. Jo will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
