John proudly served his country in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge. He later worked as a designer draftsman for Wiedeman & Singleton until his retirement, earning the respect of his colleagues through steady diligence and a work ethic that never sought attention—only results.
John married his best friend and the love of his life, Ethelle Brown, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Their story began when friends who lived across the hall played matchmaker and arranged a dinner for them to meet. After two years of dating, they married, blending their two families and building a home shaped by devotion, loyalty, and enduring love.
A man of wide-ranging interests and genuine curiosity, John found joy in both the everyday and the lifelong. He loved bowling and remained active in several bowling leagues well into his 80s, proudly owning four bowling balls. He also enjoyed playing golf, traveling with Ethelle, and cheering for the teams he loved—especially Auburn University athletics and the Atlanta Braves. In addition, John was a dedicated cattleman who raised Black Angus cattle, and his prize bull was selected to participate in Berry College's testing program.
For 15 years, John and Ethelle worshipped together as members of Rowland Springs Baptist Church. His faith was personal and steadfast, grounded in a close relationship with God that guided his life with quiet strength.
Above all, John was a devoted family man—hardworking, loving, and deeply invested in those he held dear. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his legacy lives on in the care he showed, the steadfast example he set, and the genuine interest he took in the lives of others.
John is survived by his loving wife, Ethelle Brown; his daughters, Melissa Brown Herkt, Risa Worthington (Lowell), and Joan Ingram (William Jr); his grandchildren, Raven Hylton (Tim), Tyler Worthington (Vanessa), Chase Dean (Courtney), Whitney Lampe (Ross), Kyle Worthington, Wesley Dean, Jamie Ingram (Michelle), and Chris Ingram (Amber); and his great-grandchildren, Annabelle Worthington, Isla Worthington, Charli Dean, Cade Dean, Jake Ingram, and Brody Ingram.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Wilson Brown.
John will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his quiet faith, his tireless work ethic, and the kindness and integrity that defined his life. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
A Funeral Service will be held in John’s honor on Saturday, July 18, 2026 beginning at 12:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, GA. A Reception will immediately follow the service in the Reception Cottage.
