Master Chief John Martin Hood, age 68, widower of Janice Brill Hood, passed away peacefully at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA on May 3, 2017. He was born in Akron, Ohio on July 6, 1948 to the late Clarence E. Hood and Francis Martin Hood. He was the grandson of the late John Calvin Hood and Mamie Isabell Ledford Hood, and the late Ervin Martin and Belle Mauney Martin.
He graduated from Murphy High School, Murphy, NC and served in the US Navy at many duty stations, including Vietnam and the Panama Canal Zone. He was recalled to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. His love for all things patriotic resulted in many awards, certificates and medals, too many to list. He also retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a conductor after many years of dedicated service.
Marty is survived by many friends, family and “cousins by the dozens.” His memorial service will be held on May 28, 2017 at 4pm at Knightsville United Methodist Church, 1505 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483.
