Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Brennan, Sr. and Margaret Callahan Brennan, and dear family friend Margaret (BeBe) O’Reilly. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine Brennan; daughter Bridget and husband Richard Brennan; son Joe Brennan; son Patrick and wife Daphne Brennan; daughter Sheila Micciche; daughter Margie and husband Mike Rowan; daughter Megan Brennan; and grandchildren - Sean Brennan, Jack Rowan, Paige Brennan, Rachel Brennan, Davis Brennan, Noah Brennan, Daniel Brennan, Kellum Rowan, Glen Parker Brennan, Hannah Brennan, Frances Rowan, and Brennan Micciche.
Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Radiation Technology from Saint Louis University in 1961; a Master of Science Degree in Radiation Physics from the University of Miami in 1968; and a Master of Governmental Administration from Georgia State University in 1975. In December of 1963, he joined the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service where he served for 36 years, retiring with the rank of Captain. In the last twenty years of Joe’s service, he was heavily involved in natural disaster relief efforts, beginning with Hurricane Andrew and continuing until his last deployment to New York for 9/11 relief.
Joe loved trains, fishing, trap and skeet shooting, and his garden. He was involved in Acworth Warrior Little League Football as a coach for many years. He was a devoted fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and was able to attend several games up in South Bend. He was fiercely proud of his children, and especially his grandchildren and all of their activities.
A visitation for Joe will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Thursday, July 18 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1618 Ben King Rd, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144. A private burial service for the family will follow on Thursday, July 18, 2019, 12:00 pm at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia. Family and friends are welcome to drop into the family home at 1458 Wimbledon Drive NW, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144 on Thursday afternoon between 4pm and 8pm.
