Joyce Givens Wood

Joyce was born to Malcolm and Mary Givens on October 20, 1940 in Beaumont, Texas. She grew up in Street Port, Louisiana with her two siblings, Malcom and Mary. She met and married Billy R. Wood and had three children, Mark, Bobby, and Shari - who was named after the famous puppeteer, Shari Lewis. Joyce worked as a Nurse's Aid for Shumpert Hospital in Louisiana for 16 years.

After the children were born, they relocated to Acworth, Georgia where she began working for Kennesaw State University for 10+ years. She was a beloved member of Woodstock Church of Christ and had made a point to donate to the American Cancer Society for years to help others.

Joyce is preceded in death by her daughter, Shari Wood; parents, Malcolm and Mary Givens; brother, Malcom Everett Givens; and sister, Mary Givens Thompson. She is survived by her loving husband, Billy R. Wood of Acworth, Georgia; oldest son, Mark Wood of Acworth, Georgia; and youngest son, Bobby Ray Wood of Nashville, Tennessee.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Woodstock Church of Christ in Woodstock, Georgia. Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
