Joyce Eloise Woolward was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica to Amy Gwendoline and Clifford Lloyd Lopez. Sadly her mother, who was Jewish, passed away when she was 15 days old. She was raised by an adoring father and his sisters who were all Christians. When she was older, the family moved to the new capitol, Kingston, and Joyce attended St. Hugh's High School for Girls. After High School she traveled to England to spend time with her cousins but she decided to return home when World War II broke out.
The British culture had a huge impact on her which remained with her until her passing. Hence, her love of proper etiquette, poise and discipline; all of which was evidenced in her home, her beauty salon and her new-found name, "Lady Woolward!" Upon her return to Jamaica she joined a touring dance troupe aptly called "The Gay Timers!" and did they ever have a gay old time! They travelled all over the island performing various themed dances. Joyce LOVED to dance and she loved music. She was still "dancing" in her wheelchair when she could no longer walk, in fact, up to a few weeks ago!
Joyce fell in love and in 1950, married Frank E. Woolward ("Sonny") the love of her life. They had 2 children, Carolyn and Richard. She was blessed with 5 Grandchildren: Kevin, Gary, and David Rae and Matthew and Suzanne Woolward; and 5 Great-Grandchildren: Angela, Jessica, Savannah, Deanna & Brian. She leaves behind cousins Jean, John, Michael, Patsy; nieces Renee and Debbie, nephews Lanny and Roy Sister-in-Law Lorna and so many other loving family members and dear friends, too
numerous to be named here.
She moved to the United States during the 1970's and lived first in Miami, Florida. She then moved to Marietta, Georgia in 2007 to live with Carolyn and Donna. She spent her days laughing, making friends and most importantly dancing at her Day Care Center. Joyce was the life of the party!
Joyce was loved by everyone she met - she brought "sunshine" wherever she went. She was light-hearted and loved nothing better than a good joke! She was a very kind person and encouraged faith and love. She loved babies and children in general. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Rest in peace Mummy, Grandma, GG Joyce, Joycie, Aunt Joyce, Ms. Joyce and thank you for your legacy of love, laughter, and faith all of which will live on in all our hearts L'dor Vador (Hebrew for "from generation to generation").
