

Karen’s parents were Willis and Wilma McCorkle, she was raised in Europe and America with two brothers, John H. McCorkle and Mark McCorkle. Even as a child, Karen had the ability to lift spirits of all those around her. She was raised to be warm, caring and friendly. She couldn’t help but capture everyone’s attention. She was definitely a little bit of a show off, but in doing so, she succeeded in entertaining her entire family.
During her grade school years, Karen was a very focused and serious student who actually enjoyed the challenge of many classroom problems. She was determined to succeed, and she drew upon her gifts of trust and perseverance to provide her with a competitive edge. Karen graduated from Willow High Scool, Niyson, Texas in 1971. Her favorite class in high school was English. Karen took part in softball, swimming, and ice skating. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout. Karen delighted in projects that required planning, critical thinking and resolution.
The gift of being emotionally expressive and outwardly affectionate made Karen very easy to approach. On October 9, 1981 Karen exchanged wedding vows with Samuel Whitfield at the Courthouse in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She tried hard not to impose on her spouse. She was always sensitive to other people’s feelings, and that was especially true in marriage.
During Karen's professional working years, she was at her best when working independently. It became the hallmark of her performance. Karen was generally able to refocus her drive and determination and readily work toward finding a way to get things done that was beneficial to herself and her co-workers. Her primary occupation was Quality Assurance Supervisor. She was employed for Vison Care.
Recreational sports included hunting and fishing. She enjoyed following her favorite sporting events. Tops on her list were NASCAR. Karen loved the research aspects of planning a trip, favorite vacations included Germany, Europe, Biloxi, MS; Vegas and Colorado
Karen's faith allowed her to better appreciate the gifts and opinions of others. This deepening aspect of her life helped her to accept her own feelings to a greater degree. She was a member Calvary Chapel Church. She is survived by her Husband – Samuel A. Whitfield; Brother John H. & Linda McCorkle; Brother Mark E. McCorkle; Brother in law Robert & Geni Whitfield; Brother in law W.L. & Ann McCorkle
Karen brought joy to all of those around her. She never had a mean bone in her body. She loved to have a good time and was an eternal optimist, always looking on the bright side of things. She loved to share her energy, wit, and her zest for all of her activities with her friends and family. Karen Ruth Whitfield lived life to its fullest and made everyone around her happier just for knowing her. She will be remembered with a smile.
