Laura Manning Carpenter

Laura Manning Carpenter, age 84, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Laura was born on January 29, 1937, in Dalton, GA to Octavie Bailey Manning and William Lucious Manning. Laura was a faithful member of Summit Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to old time Gospel music, traveling to Clearwater, Florida, watching a good movie on TV, playing on her iPhone and computer, and especially cooking and taking care of her family. Her fondest childhood memory was earning a letter for playing basketball for Lafayette High School. Her proudest family moments were when her three children were born. Her proudest career accomplishment was learning how to use a computer while working in the cafeteria for Marietta City Schools and being their top cashier. She earned her way up from cook to cashier to Satellite Manager to Assistant Manager at Marietta High School.

Laura is survived by her loving children; James Rodney and his wife Brande Carpenter of Acworth, Georgia; Laura Ann and her husband, David Whitlock of Acworth, Georgia; brothers, Frank Manning, Clarence Manning (Margaret) of LaFayette, Georgia; grandchildren, Rochelle Ensworth (Chris), Derrick Carpenter (Emilie), Amanda Brendel (Nic), Jacob Whitlock; great grandchildren Alexis, Savannah, Emilie and Landon; daughter-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Laura's lifelong partner and husband of 67 years, James Benson Carpenter passed away four hours after her passing; in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Bobby Daryl Carpenter; brothers Cortland Manning; Deforest "Bunk" Bailey; James Manning; George Manning; Tomas Lee Manning; sisters, Emmie M. West, and Opal M. Gilbreath.

A visitation for Laura will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A visitation will occur Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2:00 PM, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. A burial will occur Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Pine Ridge Memorial Park, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.
