Lydia Elizabeth Flugum entered the gates of heaven after giving her children the best possible gift imaginable- she was able to look them in the eyes and say goodbye. Even in the final stages of her 4 year battle with cancer, she had one concern- spare her children the pain of their loss for as long as possible.
She passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her Animals after falling asleep holding the hand of her adoring husband, Thomas Edward Flugum, Jr., after having a peaceful dinner with her daughter, Wren Elizabeth Flugum (7), her son, Thomas Edward “Trace” Flugum, III (5), and her mother, Sandra Elizabeth Wieman.
For four years after her cancer diagnosis, Lydia faced every day with Joy, Love, and Courage. For two years after her Stage 4 diagnosis, she fought to spend every possible minute with her children, and to make as many memories with them as possible. She died as she lived – fighting for what she believed was the best thing to protect her children, and to spend as much time with the people she loved as possible. She never lost hope, and focused on finding something joyful every day.
She was an artist, she loved fashion, music, and had a talent for adding beauty to everything she touched. She was a beautiful singer, always garnering adoring applause after every stage performance. She was a supportive and adoring wife, a loving daughter, a talented graphic designer, but the title she loved the most was Mom.
She loved cats, birds, flowers, antiques, and anything unique and beautiful. She was a supportive and loving friend, and her smile was infectious. She was a rock, always able to provide perspective and a path through a difficult time. She connected deeply with those she loved.
She was born July 31, 1987 and died in the early morning hours on July 8, 2026 surrounded by people she loved in a place she loved, her own home, in her own bed. She is survived by Her Children Wren and Trace, her husband Thomas, her mother Sandra, her Father, Thomas Wieman, and her brother Thomas Wieman.
A Memorial Service will occur at Winkenhoffer Pine Ridge Funeral Home on Friday July 17, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm, and her burial will occur the following morning, July 18, 2026 at 10:00 am in the Garden of Faith at Winkenhoffer Pine Ridge, under a Maple Tree.
