Jean grew up in Marietta, Georgia and attended Marietta High School and worked as an office manager throughout her life. She was strong in her faith and was a lifelong member of the Maple Avenue United Methodist Church in Marietta, Georgia. Jean had an amazing voice and enjoyed singing for weddings and singing with the church choir. She was a member of the Gleam Followers Women’s Circle and the King Sunday School Class. She enjoyed attending her Ladies Lunch Bunch with her friends at church.
When Jean was sixteen years old, she met love of her life, a young man by the name of Bobby Bryant at the local skating rink. On June 18, 1954 they became married and remained together for the next forty-two years until his passing in 1997.
She always kept her home full of love and it was always very neat and tidy. Jean and Bobby often enjoyed the outdoors together, whether it was spending time on their bass boat fishing together, camping with family and friends or going to the beach. Once a year they would attend a gospel music convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
One would say Jean had a green thumb. She loved tending to her flower gardens outside and working in her beautiful yard as well as working at a friend’s flower shop and making flower arrangements. Out of everything she enjoyed doing throughout her life, most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her daughter, granddaughter and great grandchildren. Family was very important to Jean and this was evident in every aspect of her life. Her love for her family was immeasurable.
Along with her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jo Chitwood.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Stan) Cortner; brother, Robert Chitwood; granddaughter, Hayle (Matt) Kimberly; and great grandchildren, Addyson Jean Kimberly and Grant Bryant Kimberly. Jean also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in the Chitwood and Bryant family, along with extended family members and friends to cherish her sweet memory.
A funeral service to honor Margie Jean Bryant will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, April 12, 2019 between 4:00 and 7:00 in the evening and 9:30 to 11:00 on Saturday, April 13, 2019 morning.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s name to the King Sunday School Class at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church.
