With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we remember the life of Maribel Colon, who fell asleep in death with her loving husband, David, at her side at the age of 64. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in the many cherished memories she leaves behind, and the sure hope found in God’s Word of being reunited with her again soon.
Born on August 10, 1961, in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico, Maribel was the beloved firstborn daughter of Jose & Elizabeth Rivera. From an early age, she possessed a kind heart, always eager to help in any way, and a strength and passion that would remain the hallmarks of her character throughout her life.
Above all else, Maribel loved Jehovah God. Her faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses was the foundation of her life and guided every decision she made, choosing to dedicate her life to Jehovah on August 8, 1981. She found great joy in studying the Bible, attending Christian meetings, participating in the ministry, and encouraging others with the comforting promises found in the scriptures. Her trust in Jehovah never wavered and that is what helped her to deal with the various anxieties and trials of life, including her own battle with sickness. She looked forward with confidence to the fulfillment of Jehovah’s promise that “there is going to be a resurrection” and of the time when sickness “and death will be no more” (Acts 24:15; Rev. 21:4). This hope sustained her and now brings comfort to all who loved her.
As a devoted wife, Maribel shared 44 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, David. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and unwavering commitment to one another. Through life’s joys and challenges, she remained his faithful companion, greatest supporter and closest friend.
As a mother, she poured herself wholeheartedly into raising her children, Jessenia Naomi and Jonathan David. She taught them not only through her words but most of all by her example. She celebrated their successes, comforted them during difficult times, and never stopped believing in them. Her children will forever carry with them the lessons she taught and the unconditional love she gave so freely.
Nothing brought a brighter smile to Maribel’s face than spending time with her cherished grandchildren, Mia Isabella, Jacob Edgar, and Naomi Jade. Whether through family gatherings, shared traditions such as “arts & crafts” and “Momma and Pop Pops sleepovers”, special outings, or simple moments together, she made each grandchild feel deeply loved and treasured. As their Momma, as she was affectionately called, she was a constant source of warmth, wisdom, fun, encouragement, and boundless love.
As the eldest of four she was a loving sister and second mother to her three siblings, Jose Jr, Elizaida, and Julie, sharing a lifetime of memories, laughter, support, and enduring love. Her family was one of her greatest blessings, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time together.
Those who knew Maribel will remember her for her strength, faith, hearing ear, and contagious laugh. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. Her smile brightened rooms, her words offered comfort, and her quiet acts of love often spoke louder than anything she could have said.
Maribel especially enjoyed sewing, dancing, cooking, days spent at the beach collecting shells, and some of her happiest moments were spent taking photos with friends and family, a love for capturing life’s precious moments that she inherited from her father, Jose. These simple joys are now treasured memories for everyone fortunate enough to have shared them with her.
Maribel was preceded in death by her father, Jose Rivera Jr, and her mother Elizabeth Rivera.
Maribel leaves behind her beloved husband, children, cherished grandchildren, siblings and their spouses, along with many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and spiritual brothers and sisters whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

Although we grieve the loss of someone so deeply loved, we do not lose hope. We eagerly look forward to the day when Jehovah fulfills His promise to bring back those sleeping in death. Until that joyful reunion when our tears of pain are replaced with tears of joy, we will remember Maribel for the faithful life she lived, the love she gave so generously, and the enduring example of faith she set for all who knew her.
Her legacy is not measured only by the years she lived but by the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
“A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one’s being born” (Eccl. 7:1)
