Mary Evelyn Butterworth was born in Marietta Georgia on March 3, 1926 to the late Clarence Albert Gravley and Cleo Shinall Gravley. She was the first of eight children. On April 21, 2022, Marywas reunited in heaven with many family members and friends. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mary was blessed with five amazing sons; Eddie Lee Parks (Carol), William Thomas “Tommy” Parks, Donald Oscar Parks (Joan), Billy Joe Parks (Judy), Mark Anthony Butterworth (Tracey), followed by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Parks: husband, Frank “Red” Butterworth: sons Eddie Lee Parks and Donald Oscar Parks: parents Clarence Elbert Gravley and Cleo Shinall Gravley; brothers; Clarence Gravley (Mae), Johnny Gravley (Juanita), Jimmy Gravley; sister; Grace White (William): and sisters in laws, Jane Gravley (JL) and Doris Gravley (Joe).
She is survived by her sons; Tommy, Billy and Mark. As well as a host of family members and friends, over the years. Mary enjoyed life to the fullest and had a heart of gold. She was fond of spending time with her beloved family and friends. She had the sweetest smile and the most infectious laugh.
Mary was an active member of Victory Baptist Church, led by Pastor Donald Lewis. She adored her church family and they loved her as well.
Mary’s passions included rides to the mountains, visits to the apple orchards, thrift store bargain hunts, cooking, and gardening. She was a phenomenal cook often filling her dining table with an over abundance of mouthwatering offerings to satisfy even the pickiest of pallets! She loved growing flowers, tomatoes and peppers. You would often find her standing in the garden, plucking the ripest pepper from its vine. The hotter the better she’d say with sweat beading on her brow.
Christmases at her home were a lasting tradition. That sweet, little lady welcomed countless family members, friends, and even complete strangers into her home over the years. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. But this is not goodbye, rather a short farewell until we meet again to spend eternity, in heaven. WE only hope we can live our lives with the same honor and respect as Mary Evelyn Butterworth exemplified.
A visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm with a funeral service to begin at 1:00 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Parkway North, Kennesaw Georgia 30152.
