

Mary Jean was born on April 9, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee. After graduating from Powell High School, she went on to earn a BS degree in Music from University of Tennessee. After teaching music at Powell High School, she began a long and celebrated career with Girls Scouts of America, serving in Atlanta, Albuquerque and Pensacola. Mary Jean also served as choir director at St. Andrew Presbyterian in Albuquerque, Gulf Breeze Presbyterian and First Presbyterian of Pensacola where she blessed many with her beautiful voice.
Mary Jean was known for her leadership, dependability, generosity and joyous laughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Juanita Miller. She is survived by her sisters, Lucy Suffridge of Kennesaw, Georgia and Margaret Williamson of Bellingham, Washington, along with nieces, Teresa Singletary (Dickie), Brenda Haun and nephew Dale Suffridge (Kim). Also, many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held June 17 at 2 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxvillle, TN.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Alzheimers’s Association in honor of Mary Jean.
