July 17, 1937 - June 19, 2022
Mary Key Wright, age 84, of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022. Mary was born July 17, 1937 to Howard Key and Mary Elizabeth Simmons Key in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Mary is survived by three sons: George Wright III (Debbie); Mark Wright (Kelly); Paul Wright (Kristin); her sister, Mickey Key; and ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George C. Wright, Jr.; and their son, John Wright; and her father, Howard Key and mother Mary Simmons Key.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and celebrated each addition, whether by birth, or by adoption.
Of all the joys in life, her greatest was found in a personal faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was always an active member of the local church family where she lived. For the last nine years of her life, she was a member of Mars Hill Community Church in Powder Springs, GA. There, she served in the children’s ministry and was a leader and participant in ladies Bible studies. She especially loved teaching the Bible to young Christians and helping them grow in their faith.
She was also a committed prayer warrior who kept an extensive list of names of people she prayed for daily. She celebrated each victory and mourned the losses of her friends and made a point of thanking God for the opportunity to bring their requests to Him.
Mary believed her greatest purpose in life was to tell others about Jesus. It would not have been possible to have a conversation with her and not hear the name of her beloved Savior.
Although she possessed a deep faith and a voluminous knowledge of the Bible, she always considered herself to be a learner. She loved to ask questions and share insights that came from study.
Her family affirms the words of Proverbs 31 when they give thanks for her life:
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue… Her children rise up and call her blessed…” (Proverbs 31:25-28)
A church visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mars Hill Community Church, 109 Mars Hill Rd., Powder Springs, GA. The funeral service will immediately follow at the same location. Her burial will occur Friday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Eternal Hills Cemetery, 3594 Stone Mountain Hwy., Snellville, Georgia, 30039.
