Mrs. Maudie Irene Russell, age 97, of Atlanta, GA., passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Maudie was born on June 17, 1920 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, a daughter to the late Bessie and Lee Gibson. Maudie grew up traveling all over the world due to her father’s service in the United States Army. Her travels would continue when she married her late husband, Roy K. Russell, who would also retire from the Army. As the two spent their lives traveling they made countless memories with their four beautiful children. Maudie devoted her life to raising her children, supporting her husband, and loving on her precious grandchildren. Following her husband’s passing in 1998, Maudie moved to the Mount Vernon Towers. There she made numerous friends and became involved in every activity. Some of her favorite hobbies were gardening, reading, shopping, and cooking. Maudie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; she will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Along with her parents, Maudie is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Kyle Russell and six siblings. She is survived by her four children, Barbara Russell Erb of Atlanta, Judy Bentley of Atlanta, Kyle (Karen) Russell Jr. of Cartersville, and Bill (Dianne) Russell of Acworth, GA.; seven grandchildren, Edward Erb, Kyle Erb, Adam Russell, Heather Adams, Lauren Warlick, Paxton Russell, and Georgie Russell; six great grandchildren, Laci, Taylor, Aidan, Madeline, Annabella, and Scarlett; and several nieces, nephews, and loving caretaker, Joyce Robinson. A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Maudie Irene Russell will be held at three-thirty in the afternoon on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw, GA. The family will be receiving friends from two o’clock to three o’clock in the afternoon until the graveside service on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at four o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Towers Sunroom at 300 Johnson Ferry Road, Atlanta 30328 for her resident friends and other friends of the family.
