

Dr. Maurice Mason Brown, a devoted and inspirational figure, passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on October 16, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Brown was a resident of Marietta, Georgia, where he left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A man of many talents and a respected leader, Dr. Brown was a Past District Deputy for Eden Lodge 46 and served as a Grand Lecturer with the Free and Accepted Masons in Marietta, Georgia. He was also a member of the Golden Limit Consistory #133 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Dr. Brown earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy, and through his dedication to learning he became a guiding light for his family. His devotion to learning was a gift he shared generously. As a steadfast champion of knowledge, he inspired generations of his family to pursue their own education with purpose and pride.
Dr. Brown served his country as a United States Army Veteran, embodying the traits of honesty and faithfulness throughout his career and military achievements. After his service, he became an entrepreneur, owning several restaurants over the years. His love for music led him to a fulfilling time as a jazz musician, where he had the privilege of playing with legends such as Charlie Parker and Oscar Brown.
A kind-hearted and compassionate soul, Dr. Brown was a member of the Fresh Springs Worship Center, where his daughter, Barbara Woods, is the pastor and continues to spread the words of Jesus. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce James Brown; daughters, Carmen Moore, Zoe Ann Berry, and Barbara Woods; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruffin Tillman Brown and Elizabeth Jones Brown; daughter, Maureen Turner; grandchild, Brice Turner; and siblings Robert Brown, Joseph Brown, Elizabeth Smith, Barbara Phinnessee, Janet Brown, and Ida Clay.
Dr. Brown's personal interests reflected his thoughtful and humorous nature. He enjoyed boating and hunting with his father-in-law in his younger days. Above all, he cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, holding a special place in his heart for them.
Visitation will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, located at 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, GA, on January 16, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on January 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow on January 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the same venue. A committal service will take place at Pineridge Memorial Park on January 17, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
Dr. Maurice Mason Brown will be remembered for his inspirational life, his devotion to his family, and his selfless contributions to his community. His legacy of love and wisdom will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
