Melanie Godfrey was born in San Diego, CA to Frankie and Robert Guy Hartline Sr. on November 18th, 1951, but spent her childhood growing up in Georgia. She attended Model High School in Rome, GA and West Georgia College in Carrollton, GA.
She was a beloved Mother, MiMi, Friend and Wife with an overflowing loving spirit. Her persistent, beautiful smile told the story of her love for everyone around her.
Melanie played ALTA and USTA Tennis for many years and built a network of awesome, loyal friends who she loved very much. They were as close, if not closer, than sisters.
She loved to travel both domestically and around the world. Always observant, Melanie would notice every tiny detail of a place she would visit from how a tree was pruned to small architectural details on buildings.
Spending time at her Lake House in Wedowee, AL with friends and family provided so much joy and happiness to her life. She loved everyone playing in the water.
Melanie’s selflessness was exemplified by her constant willingness to prioritize the enjoyment of those around her at any given time. She had a love for music, dancing and an impeccable eye for interior design.
Melanie was an extraordinary mother to her sons – always supportive, supremely, dedicated, bursting with positivity and up for any adventure: especially outdoors.
She is survived by her loving husband Tony Godfrey of 54 years; her beloved mother Frankie Hartline Langham; two sons, Wes Godfrey of Dalton, GA and Jon Godfrey of Columbus, GA; daughter-in-law, Lisa Perron Godfrey of Dalton, GA; Meg Purks Godfrey Stewart of Columbus, GA; four beautiful grandchildren, Anna, Harris, Helen and Lizzie Godfrey.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the wonderful friends who have been so incredibly supportive over the last several months as well as to the nurses who worked so well with Tony to ensure Melanie was as comfortable as possible.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, GA 30152 with family receiving friends from 12:30 – 2:00 PM and the service beginning at 2:00 PM with graveside interment at the same location following the service.
