the passing of Melinda Ann (Chumley) Hasty on May 20, 2021. She will be remembered forever as a
devoted wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend.
Melinda was a life-long resident of Acworth where she graduated from North Cobb High School. She
married her soul mate, Barry Hasty, on April 4, 1981, and spent 40 years building a life and family with
him, including two children and three grandchildren. She dedicated her career in service to her
community, retiring from the United States Postal service in March 2020.
Melinda was passionate about horses. She was an active member of the Bartow County Saddle Club and
on any given weekend could be found cheering on her eldest grandchild at barrel shows. In addition, she
loved reading, camping, and vacationing at the beach or the mountains.
Her greatest love, though, was her family. Melinda is survived by: husband Barry Hasty, son Brett Hasty
(Ashley), daughter Brittany Hester (Daniel), granddaughters Baylee Hasty and Reagan Hester, grandson
Rhett Hester, mother Ann Pannell, father Bobby Chumley (Betty), brothers Rodney Chumley and Doug
Thornton, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and greats of all.
She was predeceased by maternal grandparents Rev. Roy and Dot England, paternal grandparents
Andrew and Maglean Chumley, in-laws Jerry and Sylvia Hasty, grandson Colton Hester, and bonus dad
Jerry Pannell.
Our lives are forever altered by the loss of our shining light. Her defining characteristic was her selfless
personality- always putting the needs of her family ahead of her own. Her brilliant smile, contagious
laugh, and spunky attitude turned heads and lifted spirits everywhere she went. Her fierce
determination to see her family happy is the reason that we are able to carry on.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to:
