

Mernel Margerine Phillips, affectionately known as “Precious” was born August 1, 1941 in Carisbrook, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica WI to Samuel and Doris Brown. Mernel attended, and completed, Lacovia Primary School and Excelsior H.S.
As a young woman, Precious worked at LA Enrique Jewelry Store and also Dynamic Sounds as a Music Distributor. Mernel married Lascelles Phillips and had three beautiful children whom she loved dearly. Precious later migrated to Brooklyn New York, in the 1960’s, to pursue life in the USA. Shortly after her migration, Mernel relocated to South Floral Park to raise her family. Mernel’s career in geriatric nursing was pivotal to her life before her retirement in GA. She had a genuine heart, and passion, to care for others. Precious’ outgoing personality was cherished by all who became her friend. Precious enjoyed cooking, music, shopping, and most of all being a grandma. Mernel’s memory will be cherished by her family and many who had the distinct privilege of knowing her. Precious passed away, at the age of 82, on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, after a long battle of health issues.
Mernel is survived by her children: Heather Phillips, Lance Phillips, and Tricia Phillips; grandchildren Dana, Gregory, Kendra, Justine, Elysha, Aaron, Britania, Giovanni, and Christian; great grandchildren Zoei, Prince, Khasan, and Isaiah. Mernel was preceded in death by her husband Lascelles Phillips; her parents Samuel and Doris Brown.
A visitation for Mernel will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia. Following the visitation will be a chapel service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Clifford Clarke officiating.
