Michael Dunn was born on October 13, 1953 in the Jamaica section of Queens, New York. He was born to Woodroe and Modestine Dunn (both deceased).

While growing up in St. Albans, Queens, Michael attended Andrew Jackson High School. He excelled in the sport of basketball, and was a member of the school’s All Star team. After graduating from high school in 1971, Michael started working at Lee Jewelers on Park Avenue in New York City. Throughout his 20 year tenure with the company, he acquired the unique skill of diamond setting. He later became a Master Diamond Setter, and also learned how to create some jewelry pieces of his own. Michael continued working in this profession when he relocated to Georgia in 1999, and did so until his retirement in December 2016.

For 16 years, Michael served as the leader of Pillar of Truth Ministries in Aiken, South Carolina. “Bishop” (as he was commonly referred to by members of his congregation) was a man of great faith, a devoted servant of God, and a great counselor to those in need. He was passionate about teaching the word of God to others, and had a knack for helping people understand and interpret bible scripture. Michael had a great sense of humor, and he loved telling stories. He also loved fishing, watching sports and old movies, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Michael (affectionately called “Poppy” by his family) now joins his wife of 42 years, Deborah M. Dunn, in eternal rest. However, he is survived by his four children: Rashaan D. Dunn, Ibin M. Dunn, Ramel M. Dunn, and Zaida M. Syles; two brothers: Woodrow W. Dunn and Andre L. Dunn; one sister: Camille M. Hendrix; seven grandchildren: Dymond B. Dunn, Shyheem Syles, Cyniyah A. Syles, Laila I. Dunn, Zaira A. Dunn, Ilan N. Dunn, and Bria M. Dunn; one daughter-in-law: Karen D. Dunn; one son-in-law: Cyril E.A. Syles; and several relatives and friends, including his church family.

The family of Michael Dunn will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, November 10. 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor the life of Michael will be held in the Chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. Michael will then go to his final resting place at Pineridge Memorial Park. A Reception will follow at the Event Center of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Michael, but our lives seem to have parralled at several points. I too attended, played basketball and graduated from Andrew Jackson HS. I also worked on Park Ave. in NY and also lived in Kennesaw, GA for a few years!
My sincere condolences to the family.
Rest In Peace brother.
