

Paul L. Henkels, 85, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, of Acworth, died Monday, February 23, 2015. Funeral Mass is Friday, February 27, 10:30 am at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Kennesaw with burial to follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 12:30 pm.
Mr. Henkels was Navy Veteran who had served our country honorably during the Korean War and obtained the rank of Lieutenant. His career after his service included 40 plus years with US Gypsum, where he retired as a Technical Manager. Paul and his wife of 63 years, Carol, were well traveled, having visited many places around the globe, and was considered an avid gardener by all who knew him. He was a graduate of Marquette University. Paul spent many of his retirement years as a volunteer at ST. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Kennesaw serving the poor. At one time, he was also a member of the Rosary Makers, making thousands of rosaries for the missions. His grandchildren regarded him as a man who could fix anything.
Survivors include his wife – Carol Henkels of Acworth; sons – Steve (Rhonda) Henkels of New York, Tom (Patricia) Henkels of MN, Paul (Lori) Henkels of IL, and Mark (Debbie) Henkels of NJ; daughters – Mary (Kevin) Fitzgibbons of IL, Ann (Greg) Ballweg of GA, Cathy Anderson of IL, and Sue (Ed) Delaney OF GA. There are also 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren that survive.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 26, from 6 – 8 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
