Phillip Murray Mason, 88, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Atlanta on September 2, 1937, and raised in Decatur, Phillip grew into a man defined by kindness, humility, and quiet strength—traits that left a meaningful impression on everyone who knew him.
He spent many summers of his youth in Jacksonville, Florida with his grandparents, a place he has always had a great affection for.
He married Judi Wagner in 1970 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandy Springs, raised three daughters with her, and cared for Judi until her death from cancer in 2009.
He was a devout Catholic, converting later in life, who attended Mass regularly, sometimes daily, was active in parish activities, and enjoyed sponsoring new Catholics in OCIA on their journeys into the Catholic Church. Phillip’s devotion to his family was the cornerstone of his life. He cherished regular family get-togethers and beach vacations with his daughters, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren.
A lifelong automotive enthusiast, Phillip had a special fondness for General Motors vehicles, particularly Cadillacs. His early passion for cars led him to a successful start in automotive sales, where his enthusiasm made him a natural fit. He enjoyed taking long, scenic drives with his family through North Georgia or nostalgic drives through Decatur, where he grew up.
Phillip honorably served his country as an infantryman in the United States Army Reserves. Following his military service and early work in automotive sales, Phillip also built a respected career as a custom home builder and later became a real estate agent.
Phillip is survived by his three daughters: Jennifer (Randy) Grady, Michelle (Mark) Kalbach, and Kerri Overseth; his sister, Charlene Ivey; fifteen grandchildren: Gabrielle Hargadon (Grady), Juliette Grady, Jack Grady, William Grady, Charlotte Grady, Ian Grady, Henry Grady; Kendall Buhlig (Kalbach), Seth Kalbach, Stella Kalbach; Brenden Overseth, Kinsley Overseth, Reily Overseth, Ashlyn Overseth, Bryan Overseth; and great‑grandchildren Saige May-Overseth and Mason May-Overseth. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Judi Mason, with whom he shared a lifetime of devotion and joy; and by his parents, Marian and Tennyson Mason.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00–7:00 PM on Sunday, February 1, at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Georgia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Woodstock, Georgia. A graveside interment service will follow immediately at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw, Georgia.
