Ruth Lee Mizell, born on June 5, 1943, in Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 82. A longtime resident of Smyrna, Georgia, Ruth was known for her loving, empathetic, sweet, and shy nature. Her quiet demeanor was complemented by a gentle humor, and she was a devoted caregiver—compassionate, faithful, and kind.
Born to Mack and Mable Mizell, Ruth cherished her beloved younger sister, Wanda, born on Christmas Day and fondly regarded by Ruth as her “Christmas present.” Ruth dedicated 25 years of her career to J.C. Penney, retiring as a Sales Manager. Her work ethic, professionalism, and commitment were hallmarks of her long tenure.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Ruth maintained a close personal relationship with God. She loved to cook, travel, and spend time with her family. Caring for others came naturally to her, and she found great joy in tending to her loved ones. Ruth had a special affection for Scottish Terriers, raising them from puppies, and she delighted in the simple pleasures of crocheting.
Ruth was a devoted member of Roswell Street Baptist Church for 40 years. Her love for children shone brightly throughout her life, beginning at age nine when she started serving in the church nursery—a role she treasured for many years.
Ruth is survived by her sister and best friend, Wanda Mizell, and her cousin, John Kagley, who lived with her for several years while attending Darlington and became like a son to her. She also leaves behind many cousins whom she held close to her heart and felt like they were more siblings than cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Mable Mizell, and her faithful Scottish Terrier companion, McKenzie.
Ruth Lee Mizell will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to others leave a legacy of love, kindness, and grace.
