Scott Joe Carter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on October 24, 2024 at the age of 68. He was born on December 19, 1955 in Marietta, GA to Harley and Addie Carter.
Growing up in a household with seven siblings, Scott was celebrated not only for his immense love and devotion to family but also for his unwavering drive to bring joy and laughter to his brothers and sisters—often through elaborate pranks. These cherished moments will forever hold a special place in his family's hearts.
Scott met the love of his life, Melinda Turner, while both were students at Sprayberry High School. Scott and Melinda were married on September 12, 1975.
He had a deep passion for Braves baseball, vintage cars, music—especially Bluegrass—and golf. However, Scott’s greatest joy came from being Grandpops to his five grandchildren, filling their lives with laughter, love, and happiness.
Scott is preceded in death by his father, Harley Carter; his mother, Addie Carter Keheley; his stepfather, Walt Keheley; his brother, Jim Carter; and his sister, Betty Barton.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda; his children, Stephanie Montgomery and her husband Luke Montgomery, Jeff Carter and his wife Kerri Carter; grandchildren, Austin, Brayden, and Camden Montgomery, and Carson and Kaylee Carter; brothers, Stan and Johnny Carter; sisters, Teeny Staton, Tonnie Craig, and Harlene Glosson.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who provided care and compassion to our beloved husband, father, and Grandpops during his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Eagle Watch Golf Club (3055 Eagle Watch Dr, Woodstock, GA 30189) on Friday, November 1st at 11:00 AM. Please be aware of the club’s dress code requirements including collared shirts and no denim.
