Sharon Miller Speed Condon

May 24, 1941 – June 18, 2026

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Sharon Miller Speed Condon announces her peaceful passing on June 18, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the family she cherished so dearly.

Sharon was born on May 24, 1941, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Harold and Eloise Speed. She spent her early years in Aliceville, Alabama and graduated from Aliceville High School in 1959. A lifelong learner with a passion for education, Sharon attended both the University of Alabama and Baldwin Wallace College, Berea, Ohio where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. She would then go on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Rhode Island.

One of the greatest blessings of Sharon's life was the love she shared with her husband, David Michael Condon. Their remarkable love story began in 1960 during football season at Duke University, where a chance encounter inspired Sharon to write David a letter and from that simple act of courage began a journey that would span 64 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, friendship, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Sharon dedicated her professional life to educating and inspiring others. She taught English at Wheeler High School for 25 years, where she was admired by students and colleagues alike for her intelligence, compassion, and commitment to excellence. She served as Department Head and was honored as Teacher of the Year at Wheeler High School for the 2007 – 2008 school year. Following her retirement, she continued sharing her knowledge as an adjunct faculty member at Kennesaw State University for 20 plus years.

Her accomplishments extended beyond the classroom. In 1982, Sharon was crowned Mrs. Rhode Island and participated in the Mrs. America Pageant in Las Vegas, a distinction that reflected her grace, poise, and vibrant spirit. She and David shared a love of travel and treasured the adventures they experienced together throughout the years. Sharon also found joy in reading, playing the piano, and engaging in thoughtful conversation. Her curiosity about the world and her love of learning never faded.

To her family, Sharon was so much more than her accomplishments. Lovingly known as "DeeDee" by her grandchildren, she was fun-loving, attentive, knowledgeable, and endlessly supportive. She had a gift for making those around her feel seen, heard, and loved. Her warmth, wisdom, and joyful presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Sharon is survived by her devoted husband, David Michael Condon; her daughter, Tracy Caroline Mattson; her sisters, Sandra Speed Kovacs (James) and Lila Jefferies "Jeff" Speed; her granddaughters, Ashby Stone (Ben) and Britny Lehnherr (Sean); and her beloved great-grandchildren, Harrison Stone, Kellen Stone, and Brody Lehnherr.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Marie Sadowski Nee Condon.

Sharon's life was a testament to the power of love, education, friendship, and family. Though her earthly journey has ended, the lessons she taught, the lives she touched, and the love she shared will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

"A life well-lived leaves a legacy of love that never fades."
