With great sorrow and admiration, we announce the passing of 1SG Stephan R. “Steve” Dodson. Born on December 29, 1956, in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas to Charles and June Dodson, he dedicated his life to service, honor, and love of family.

As a Jump Master, he completed two combat jumps, a testament to his bravery and training. His service took him around the world, shaping him into a man of wisdom, strength, and integrity.
Above all, Steve cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved Marti, with whom he shared 31 years of love and laughter. Together, they built a life filled with unforgettable memories. He was a proud father and mentor to Victor and Rick, always leading by example. He instilled in his children and those around him the values of hard work, fairness, and perseverance.

*Notes* for future Dodson genealogist from Marti, about Steve.
Steve did not like the focus to be on him or his achievements. The above obituary, although true, would make him ill at ease. Steve ate meat and potatoes, hated vegetables. Had a crazy sweet tooth. 100 percent loved country life and hated the city. He quit smoking after 45 years and spoke Spanish.
Was a German Shepard man but loved our cats despite his allergies. He did not snore, but his cat did.
Steve and I met while we were both stationed in Germany. He was an old school romantic, buying flowers for no reason, writing notes and reaching for my hand to dance in the living room to Joe Cocker’s “You are so Beautiful”. After traveling the world with the Army, in retirement, he was an absolute homebody. He was not the kind of guy that you should put on speaker phone. He enjoyed war movies but suffered through Downton Abby with me. Every Saturday morning, he ate breakfast with his friends at Doug’s. Old country, rock and gospel were his favorites, and he loved to sing along. Above all, Steve had a solid relationship with God.
