Suzanne Loftus

Suzanne Loftus, age 55, of Acworth, joined her Mom & Dad in Heaven, July 1, 2016. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 5, 10:30am at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Kennesaw. The family will receive friends at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw on Sunday, July 3, from 4-8pm.

Suzanne was born with Down Syndrome, February 19, 1961, and her life expectancy at that time was about twelve years. However, through the Grace of God, her mother’s constant attention, her father’s loving care, and the love and attention she received from her siblings and extended family members, she beat the odds. She attended the Blue Cap School in Illinois, which her parents founded for her and other special needs children. It is still an active center today in 2016. Suzanne attended and graduated from Eisenhower H.S. in Blue Island, IL. She received the Sacraments of the Roman Catholic. When Suzanne moved to Georgia, she attended the Cherokee Training Center in Canton, GA. In the 37 years she attended, she participated in daily outings, acquired job skills, social functions, and loved everyone at the center. Suzanne loved the Atlanta Braves and followed the team for years with her friend, Klevin Smith. She loved country music, and danced with every male at family weddings including her Uncle Joe. Suzanne could read enough to enjoy word search books and play boggle with nieces and nephews. The dice game of 10,000 she enjoyed every night with her brother Jack and anyone else. Jack was her most awesome caregiver until the very end. They also shared a special love of Mexican food. Her favorite movie was the Sound of Music. Suzanne never met a stranger and loved everyone. Thanks to her brothers’ generosity, she was able to fly across the country.

Suzanne is survived by her sister Lea and favorite brother in law David Weaver of Ellijay; brothers – William (Bill) and wife Debbie Loftus of Oceanside, CA, John (Jack) Loftus of Acworth, and Thomas (Tom) Loftus and his wife Patricia O’Hearn of Manhattan, NY; 11 nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews; many friends, teachers & staff at the Cherokee Training Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherokee Training Center, 133 Univeter Rd, Canton, GA 30114 in memory of Suzanne Loftus.
