Thomas Ferrara, a beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on June 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on October 1, 1943, he was the devoted son of Mary and Anthony Ferrara and grew up in Uniondale, New York. He lived in Sarasota, Florida for many years before returning to New York to be closer to his family when his nieces were young children. In 2010, he retired to Dallas, Georgia, where he continued to touch the lives of those around him with his humor, warmth, and generosity. He later became a resident of Celebration Village in Acworth, Georgia, where he lived out his final years with many new friends and neighbors in this community. He was known to be quite the jokester amongst the residents and staff and is remembered for the laughter he brought them upon each encounter.
Thomas dedicated much of his career to the Great Neck School System, where he served as a head custodian. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic, friendly nature, and deep commitment to the staff he served.
A lifelong fan of the New York Mets and an avid reader of action novels, Thomas found joy in simple pleasures. He especially loved the holidays—Christmas and Halloween were his favorites—and he brought festive cheer and laughter to every gathering. With an infectious laugh, a big heart, and a playful spirit, he was often described as a big kid at heart.
Thomas was deeply devoted to his family. He is predeceased by his loving sister, Angela LaMattina (Victor). He is survived by his five cherished nieces: Sherri-Ann Adelsky (Scott), Valerie Santana (Omar), Michelle LaMattina, Dawn Meriam (Christopher), and Jennifer LaMattina; and six adored great-nieces and nephews: Nicholas, Christopher and Vincent Adelsky, Scarlett Santana, and Aria and Nathan Meriam. Though he had no children of his own, he treated his nieces as if they were his own children and remained a steadfast, loving presence in their lives.
Thomas will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, and the love he so freely gave to everyone he knew. His legacy lives on in the laughter, memories, and traditions he shared with his family and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Parkway N, Kennesaw GA 30152 on Sunday, June 8th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. On Monday, June 9th at 11:00 AM, a mass will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, located at 6301 Cedarcrest Road, Acworth GA 30101. Burial services will immediately follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation in honor of Thomas Ferrara to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization he held dear.
