An Army Veteran, Mr. Gambrel served in France during WWII and after the war returned home where he pursued his long career as an Educator. He was dedicated to the children he encounter in the Elementary and Middle Schools where he taught and was elected Teacher of the Year by his peers. Mr. Gambrel was a man of faith and was a very active member of Springfield Baptist Church where he served as the Superintendent of the Sunday school along as teaching a class.
Virgil is survived by his loving wife Helen Stanley Gambrel, son Ralph Gambrel (Alana) of Ballground, daughters Sharon Peddicord of Kennesaw, Marsha Phipps (Bolin) of Kennesaw, and Linda Cook (Ray) of Rockmart. There are also five grandchildren that survive.
