Mr. Walcott Frankson Brooks, affectionately known as “Bunny”, was born in Kingston, Jamaica West Indies on May 20,1955 to Verona Redman and George Brooks (both deceased) where he spent most of his formative years as a teen and young adult.
Vineyard Town, Jamaica WI was home for Bunny with his grandmother Aunty Dor, who was his primary caretaker; there he formed a bond with a circle of friends whose camaraderie lasted to the very end. From a young age he was the one to always “buck” the system with his appealing mischievous edge that would get everyone to agree with his plan even when they knew they would get in trouble once the fun was over. From the unauthorized use of the vendor’s donkey cart for a joy ride through the neighborhood, to driving the neighbor’s car into a fence. With his “doting” grandmother always there to smooth things over with those who found themselves on the other side of his pranks, he always walked away with minor reprimands and much laughter. He attended Kingston College High School where he developed an interest in sports with a keen focus in soccer (football as it is known in Jamaica); his love for soccer intensified over the years and lasted his entire life.
Bunny immigrated to Queens, New York, in 1977 where he matured into a responsible young man and was blessed with a family who adored him; that includes: His loving wife, Heidie (Debbie); sons Omar, Paul, Kareem, Jahbar, Matthew, Simeon, and Sean. His love and dedication for his family was continuously evident, he was always there to “cushion their falls” and support their endeavors.
In search of a more prosperous life for him and his family, in 2002 Bunny relocated to Georgia and settled in the city of Dacula. Life in Georgia was good for him as he finally settled into enjoying the life he dreamed of for so long. As an Operating Room Technician for Gwinnett Medical Center, he believed in working hard and playing hard. His passion for soccer continued to permeate everything; he was an avid soccer player, followed teams and professional players, and he would often be seen wearing one of his many soccer Jerseys; he even had the opportunity to see Pele, one of his favorite soccer players, in action. He continued to receive blessings in the form of his nine grandchildren: Selyah, Sean II, Daniel, Jahzara , Amirrah, Ky-Mani, Laila, Jahbari, Jahsiir, and the family dog, Scrappy.
A true romantic, Bunny ensured Debbie, his queen, had fresh roses every week; a tradition he began in 1982 when they first met and is continued today by their son, Matthew following in his father’s footsteps. He enjoyed snuggling with Debbie and watching old movies, particularly his favorite Barefoot Contessa, a drama mystery from 1954. Holidays brought joy to his heart as he found these special occasions as an opportunity to connect with friends and family members near and far, including the Vineyard Town crew who dubbed him “Spengae”.
Siblings: Richard, Patricia, Beverley, Winston (deceased), Carol, Jasmine, Leon, and Wayne (deceased). Mr. Walcott Frankson Brooks passed away on January 15th, 2021. He will be missed and remembered always by his many family members, colleagues, and friends.
