Born on January 24, 1990, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Zack lived a life defined by quiet strength, compassion, humor, and generosity that was deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Zack was born to his loving parents, Bob and Lisa Ferer. He spent his early years in hockey rinks as a goaltender, riding dirt bikes with his dad and brother, and surrounded by the unwavering love of his family, especially his mom, his lifelong champion.
Zack’s life experiences inspired a deep desire to help others. In 2022, he earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia, concentrating in substance abuse counseling, with the goal of helping guide others on their own path to sobriety with empathy and understanding.
On July 27, 2019, Zack married the love of his life, Claire. Their relationship was built on authenticity, laughter, and unwavering support. As shared in their wedding ceremony: “We may not be perfect, but we’re perfect together.” Zack gave the very best hugs and brought warmth and comfort to those he loved.
Zack found joy in hiking, riding his street and dirt bikes, working in the garage, fixing just about anything, and creating a home with care and intention.
One of Zack’s greatest joys was being an uncle to Aiden and Ollie. He loved passing down family traditions, including gifting his nephew a dirt bike just as his own uncle did for him. Recently, he crafted model airplanes for his nephews along with a playful letter claiming a top-secret government assignment: an unforgettable reflection of his imagination, humor, and love.
Zack was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Ferer.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Claire Ferer; his mother, Lisa Ferer; his brother, Ryan Ferer; his sister-in-law, Patti; his cherished nephews, Aiden and Ollie; and his goofy, lovable dog, Ziggy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in memory of Zack and his father, honoring Zack’s spirit of generosity and care for others.
A celebration of Zack’s life, with a bonfire and space for all to gather authentically in his honor, will be held in October 2026. Details to follow.
Thank you for sharing your love, laughter, and light with us, Zack. You are deeply missed and will be forever remembered.
