Anna Blouin

November 19, 1921 – October 10, 2016

On October 10, 2016 Anna (Gillies) Blouin passed away peacefully at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital - just short of her 95th birthday.

She will be lovingly remembered by Emile, her husband of 58 years, daughters Louise Blouin and Micheline Hay, son-in-law Tom, and “interesting” grandsons, Liam and Ryan, of whom she was so proud. She will also be missed by her beloved nephews Deryl (Yvonne) Gillies and David (Mary) Gillies, and her many friends, including those at Knox United Church.

Ann was predeceased by her parents Archie and Valetta (Potter) Gillies, sisters Isabelle and Olive (Walter / Albert), brother Hughie (Dorothy), and nephew Bryn.

Ann was born and raised in Ailsa Craig, a little town outside London, Ontario. She taught school there, as well as in Strathroy and London, until 1959 and then moved to Kenora. She has many friends in the London area with whom she has returned for reunions.

She was an avid supporter of music, arts, and culture as she volunteered her time and gave encouragement to many generations of children who participated in the Kenora Festival of the Arts and Royal Conservatory of Music exams. She spent many hours volunteering for Lake of the Woods Concert Group. She loved and cherished her years as a bell ringer with Sunset Country Bell Ringers and Quartet. She also enjoyed her exercise classes with all the fun ladies at the New Horizons Seniors Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Knox United Church or a charity of your choice.

All friends are invited to a Remembrance Tea, with a short period of music and reflection, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, 3 to 5 pm, to be held in the common room, 5th floor of Grandview Villa, 7 Woods Drive.

Ann, we hope you are now sitting in the parlour with your brother and sisters on Uncle Klondike’s horsehair couch, waiting for the piper to play.
