After a long battle, Mom passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home.
She had just turned 78 years old.
She is survived by her children Frank (Red Lake), SherryAnn (Kenora) and Hubert (Calgary); her grandchildren Marci (Edmonton) and Drew (Calgary); her sister Cecile (Russell) and two brothers Hubert (Vancouver) and Gordon (Kenora).
She was predeceased by her parents Hubert and Mary Hamilton, her grandson Dylan and two sisters Lillian and Hilda. Her best buddies Audrey, Phyllis and Alice.
Annamay was born on January 18, 1935 in Kenora and was raised all of her life in Kenora.
In her younger years she worked at Delany Lake Lodge and Grassy Narrows Lodge. She then became a full time housekeeper until she retired. Some might remember her working the Legion door on Friday nights where if you didn’t have your card, you didn’t get in.
She always had a zest for life. She was a straight shooter, always saying what she thought which in some cases wasn’t always what you wanted to hear.
Annamay belonged to the Women of the Moose and the Kenora Legion.
At her request, there will be no funeral service at this time. A Celebration of Life is being planned for later.
In her honour, donations may be made to Lake of the Woods District Hospital Dialysis Unit or the Handi Transit.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home, Lake of the Woods District Hospital Dialysis Unit, Dr. Bowerman and Dr. Walters for taking wonderful care of Mom.
“My name is Annamay
So you’d better get out of my way
Because sometimes I feel like a fight.
I go to school every day
And peddle my papers at night.”
