Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent her early years in Minaki Ontario attending school and at times helping her family while her dad was away during war time. She worked as a caddie at the Minaki Lodge to earn money to help further her education. She mentioned often that a few of those people as well as family helped her financially to attend high school in Winnipeg. Education was very important to our Mom.
She continued her education to become a school teacher. Her first classroom was a one room
schoolhouse with grades 1-12. It was located in Wakopa Manitoba. Wakopa was where she met our Dad and were later married. They began their family and moved for a few years to Saskatchewan before relocating to Minaki in 1967.
Mom worked at many jobs in the community of Minaki over the years. She ended her working career in 1996 by retiring from the Nursing Station as a clerk.. Over the years you would find Mom taking part in almost everything being held in the community. She was an avid curler, skier, fisherwoman and walker just to name a few. She had the opportunity to travel and spoke often of her adventures with friends and family both. Mom was a kind soul. Her friendships were life long, which says so much about who our mother was. She was strong, a survivor and a confidant to many. We will all miss you Mom.
