Brian Peter Brown

December 28, 1934 - October 9, 2011

Brian Brown, loving husband of Elaine Brown, passed away peacefully at Lake of the Woods District Hospital October 9, 2011

at the age of 76 years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Elaine and children: Susan (John) of Cambridge, ON; Garth (Debbie) of Gainsville, TX; Dean (Laura) of Goshen, NY; and Wendy of Kelowna, BC. He will always have a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren: Walter, Jessie, Mick, Jack, Erika and Katelyn. Also survived by his brother David (Kathryn) of Belleville, ON and many nieces and nephews.

Brian was predeceased by his mother Jessie and father Walter of Kenora.

Brian was born and lived in Kenora for all of his life except for a few years when at the age of sixteen he travelled out west to follow his main passion of horses and worked as a ranch hand.

Brian and Elaine met in Toronto while they were both at school and were married November 3, 1960. After College Brian worked at Union Gas for 37 years and established the Brown Ranch on the Redditt Road, where for 47 years Brian and Elaine raised Champion Quarter Horses and made the Brown Ranch a leading international breeder of reining horses.

The coffee pot was always on at the Brown Ranch and there were many lively discussions around the kitchen table. Brian always had an opinion and wasn’t afraid to tell you what it was. He will always be in our hearts.

We would like to thank all the staff of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their compassion and care. A special thank you to all the friends who helped out at the Ranch during Brian’s illness.

A Celebration of Brian’s Life to be announced at a later date.
