He moved to the Northwest Angle 33 First Nation in 2000 where he attended high school. BJ spent a lot of time learning how to sing powwow songs, in particular Northern Wind powwow music. BJ also loved the outdoor life spending time out on the lake fishing or ice fishing in the winter months. He liked to play hockey and golf, but most of all he loved to travel to powwows and sing at the drum. BJ joined the Northern Wind Singing group and was a member for over 10 years. His passion for singing defined him as one of the best and it showed each time he sat at the drum.
