She also sadly leaves behind her friends Keesha, Harmony, Katieanne, Kris, Brian, Bud, Kayla, Casey, Tristan and so many more.
Cayla is now resting her beautiful soul with many who’ve departed before her including her Nanny June Whiting; Papa Marvin Boucha; Great grandparents William “Digger” Boucha & Agnes Beaver, Jules & Diana Bouchard, Ken Hicks; Great Aunts and Uncles David Boucha, Charlene Boucha, Robert Boucha, Bernie Hicks, Michelin Bouchard, Olive & Bernie Ouellet; Cousins Nicole Ouellet & Rene Whiting. She’s reunited with her special friends Logan Philipchuk and Chris Barclay, whom she loved and missed dearly. She took these two everywhere she went and made shrines for them while on earth, making sure they were always included on her adventures.
Cayla found her place in this big world to start her new journey to recovery. Cache Creek, B.C. was her home with her BC family Alysa Lee, Alysa’s daughter Auria and her mom Karryanne Maki. She seemed to find peace within herself with the help of these beautiful people.
We knew Cayla was a unique, free-spirited child from the day she was born. She was the first for many of us; first child, first granddaughter, first great granddaughter and first niece.
She took pride in her sister Jenette, her first best friend. They fought hard against and for each other but loved even harder.
“The day we became sisters, you were imprinted on my brain and can never truly go away.
Spirit to spirit and heart to heart, sisters forever together and apart.
The years I had with you will always be more memorable than the years you’ve been gone.
I hope my sister feels at peace just like she always made me feel; like sleeping beauty, my sister rests until the day our fates align.
Big sister,
my best friend,
my second mother,
my protector from
the start
I will always love you.” - Jenette
Cayla’s little sisters Briana and Paislee looked up to her and were always excited to have her attention. We know she’ll be a guardian angel to all 3 of her sisters.
She grew up with her Aunties E.J. & Candace and Uncles Desmond, Jason and Jeremy. She was so loved by them.
She had a love for all living things. At 3 years old, she came into the house with a pail of army worms and told her mom that they were her babies.
Our Cayla was a water baby, you’d swear she was part fish. If she wasn’t swimming, she’d be in a bathtub or showering 3 times a day. She loved being out in a boat, tubing, water skiing, jet skiing or just floating around enjoying the ride. Being an outdoors lady, she loved jogging in the morning or evenings. She said it made her feel free.
Fishing, hunting, ice fishing, hiking, sledding, camping and her numerous road trips rocked her world.
Her aunts and uncles always had fun with her at the Agriculture Fairs. She had to be on the biggest and fastest rides and stay until closing if she could. With creativity in her artwork from school and home, we would enter her work in to be judged at the fair and she always had excellent awards.
Cayla was enrolled into a soccer league where she excelled at that sport, learning the skills of being a striker or goalkeeper. It was always a pleasure watching hers and Jenette’s games.
At 8 years old, she couldn’t wait to have sleepovers with Auntie E.J. First thing she would do is kick off her shoes, hop in the shower, get into her pj’s and start their scary movie fest - or have long talks and share scary stories. Her stories were always the best. It was one of their many special moments spent together.
Cayla’s sense of direction took her to many places, but she would always find her way home again. She was our little traveller, taking us on her journeys and nail-biting adventures. Whether it was down east or out west, we lived vicariously through her travels. She found beauty in everything. She experienced bungee jumping, hiking and camping in the mountains. She also took her sister Jenette, Keesha and Kris skydiving in Manitoba this summer. There was never a dull moment with our girl.
Cayla loved her Grandma Julie and Papa John so much. They will always cherish every single moment they had together. Their bond was unbreakable, and their love was forever undeniable. Cayla knew their arms were always opened wide for her. They will forever remember her laugh and smiles she gave us.
“We will miss your smile and laugh so much. Thank you for inspiring and reminding us to take in the beauty of nature. When we look at the sun we will think of your shining smile” - Uncle Jeremy and Cass.
Cayla found her peace while being on the road to recovery. She acquired her grade 12 which was one of her goals. In her past year, she decided it was time to heal herself, she took up traditional healing and connected with nature. She studied up on awakenings, stars, dreams and allowed nature to help her heal and cleanse her soul. She was super hyped and planned a trip home to learn and experience Ayahuasca and Shamanism as it was her newfound passion. She couldn’t wait to get back to Cache Creek to do her routine of yoga and meditating.
She was also a collector of treasures - a lot like her Nanny June. There was a meaning in everything and anything she found, picked up, kicked out and placed in her pockets.
She loved cards; receiving, sending and making cards for everyone. She saved and collected them all and held them close to her heart. She had so many talents and explored sewing & crafting, making memorable items for her Nana Banana and Grandma.
There isn’t enough space on this piece of paper to express the care and compassion our girl had for others. Her desire to help other young people was on her next “to do” plan; to show them that there is so much life to live; to keep dreaming and never give up. She was a dreamer and a do’er. Whatever she set her mind to do, she did it. We are so proud of you Cayla Marie!
Cayla’s walk through life has made a huge impact on everyone in her world. Her beautiful soul shone brightly, her laugh lifted our hearts and her amazing smile embraced our love. She is our precious angel.
She’s in the sun,
the wind, the rain,
she’s in the air you
breathe with every
breath you take.
She sings a song
of hope and cheer,
there’s no more pain,
no more fear.
You’ll see her in
the clouds above,
hear her whisper
words of love,
you’ll be together
before long, until then
listen for her song.
