In Loving Memory of Edward Andy 1946 - 2012

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the Andy Family announces the sudden passing of Edward Andy “Neyokamig” of the Moose Clan on October 11, 2012.

Ed is predeceased by his beloved wife Linda (nee Nelson), his parents Joseph Sr and Bessie (nee Morrison), siblings Josephine, Christine, and Jim as well as his in-laws Herb and Evelyn Nelson of Rainy River.

Ed is survived by his two daughters Michelle and Heather, grandchildren Vanessa and Lucius, brother Joseph Jr “Nanabush” as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ed was born in Big Grassy First Nation where he spent a childhood filled with fond memories that he spoke of with great pride. Ed met the love of his life and best friend Linda at New Moon Landing where for all who new Ed was a time he considered the best years of his life. Ed and Linda shared wonderful memories of marriage, travel, and trips to various casinos. Ed cherished the years raising his daughters with Linda and embraced becoming a Goompa to Vanessa as well as a Yeye to Lucius. Vanessa will fondly remember her special drives when Goompa would tell stories. In recent years it was common to see Yeye with Lucius on their regular walks to park, the chip truck, rides on the bus, shopping together at Walmart and the special day trips to Tinkertown where Yeye spent the day co-piloting all the rides. Ed also spoke of his long career in the Ontario Provincial Police Service with great honour. Through his career Ed established great friendships and was well known for his great rapport for those he came across.

Eds Traditional Service will be on October 18, 2012 at Big Grassy Community Hall in Big Grassy starting at 10:00am with his wake the night before on October 17, 2012 at 6:00pm at Big Grassy Narrows Community Hall.

Ed was my mentor, I respected him tons, and looked up to him to infinite, when I became a police officer, he was my guide, I remember always wanting to have that same status he had, as an officer, but I had the pleasure of working and travelling with him through the Ministry of Attorney General. That surpassed my dreams, when I realized, "Hey he's working with me!!, now he's following me!!" LOL As we boarded our flights to the north to work with the ppl, he told stories all the time, which intrigued the court parties. I sat there in awe at times thinking, "Wonder what they think having 2 Andys on the same plane." LOL He will be missed. ;)

I think of fond memories of my years with Ed, especially working in the O.P.P His laughter, smile and unique wit brought us through many on the job adventures. Our heartfelt sympathy.

My condolences to Ed's family. Although I haven't seen him for many years, I will always remember attending Ontario Police College with Ed. He had a good sense of humour and it was an honour knowing him. Larry Kivimaki, Fort Frances

When I worked at Grassy Narrows as the nurse, I got to know Ed very well as we worked on various committees to help the community to stabilize. When I was called out at night to deal with something very serious, Ed was always there, perfectly dressed. I really wondered how he could get out of bed and get dressed so perfectly and turn up so quickly! I enjoyed his sense of humour and appreciated his depth of sensitivity. I shall miss him.
