January 5, 1953 – December 30, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife.
Geraldine Norma Sandy (a-choo) passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with her husband by her side on Friday December 30, 2016. She was a member of Northwest Angle 33 First Nation.
Geraldine is predeceased by her parents Julius and Alice Bird; her son Dennis; her sisters Helen, Esther, and Gloria; her brothers Stanley and Douglas.
Geraldine is survived by her husband of 41 years Ken Sandy. They were married at Northwest Angle on September 1, 1975.
Geraldine, or "mum" is lovingly remembered by her brother Peter; her sister Matilda; her daughters Geraldine, Diane and Shelly; her grandchildren Kevin, Megan, Herbie, Reilly, Savannah, Jordan, Drake, Candi, Denyce, Thomas, Michaela, Michelle, Joshua, Dylan, Dennis and great-grand daughter Kaylee; and many nephews and nieces.
Geraldine Sandy was born on January 5, 1953 in Kenora, Ontario. She was raised in Whitefish Bay then moved to Northwest Angle #33 in 1969 where she lived with her husband and together they raised their family. Ken and Geraldine had 4 children whom they lovingly raised. They spent a lot of time on the road camping and sightseeing, and enjoying life as much as possible. Family was always important to both of them, and Geraldine was always viewed as the one who ensured the family never drifted too far from home. She always made sure the family would gather for holidays, or she would plan shore lunches, anything she could think of as a means to gather her family.
Geraldine had many hobbies and interests including bird watching, reading, bingo and gardening, but her number one passion in life was her family.
She was an amazing home maker and provider, and dedicated her entire life to her family. Geraldine was known as "mum" in the community and amongst her grandchildren's friends. Our home always had open doors because of her. She was a very caring and loving woman who worked tirelessly. She loved her grandchildren dearly and devoted much of her time to ensuring their happiness.
Viewing will begin on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:00 and a Christian Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm at the Northwest Angle Church, with Bobby Blackhawk officiating.
