It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished Mom and Kookum on January 29th, 2026, whose warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Throughout her life, she was a pillar of strength and wisdom. She taught us the importance of resilience, gratitude, and laughter, even in the face of adversity. Her love knew no bounds.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as extended family and many dear friends.
She is survived by her children Frankie, Arthur, Claudia (Daryle), Marcella, Alex, grandchildren: Joelle (Bryanne), Avery (Kelcie), Maryjane (Franklin), Nathan (Cassandra), Joshua (Maybeline), Cherokee, Ashanti, Trinity (Andreas), Justin, Jordan, Shane, great grandchildren: Jayde, Jayelle, Jaysiah, James, Samantha, Tobias, Kali, Jeremiah, Amiria, Stiles, Kerigan, Ty, Neveah, Liam, Alora, Ivy, Zane, Jonah, Stanley, Jacqueline, Bryson and Baby K.
She was predeceased by her children Samantha, Geraldine, Beverley, Richard and Marlene, her parents: Russell Redsky and Emma Copenace, her siblings Sam Redsky, Jimmy Redsky, Henry Redsky, Esther Redsky, Mary Redsky, Sally Redsky, her grandparents: Baldhead Redsky and Banohkatook, great-grandparents (Redsky side) Ashahtayquanape (Grandfather) and Tangkekoneypeek (Grandmother).
Her sister/cousin Jean Redsky, both of them were inseparable and always together when they were at Pinecrest Home, Kookum would always ask where Jean would be. They are reunited together in Heaven, Love and laughter between them two.
Mom/Kookum was strong and loving, she loved with a big heart and always knew what to say to those who would feel sad, She always told stories and would do silly things to make her family laugh, and she was a great mom and kookum to us all, We enjoyed coming together on special occasions, Kookum would have a big smile when she would be home with us. Mom/Kookum will be dearly missed by her family.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Shoal Lake #40 Band Office Gymnasium starting on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026 at 11:00am. Funeral service will be at the Shoal Lake #40 Gymnasium starting on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, at 10:00am Pastor Robert Wittmeier officiating.
The family would like to extend their thank you to the Nurses at Pinecrest Home for giving our Kookum/Mom the best loving care, and to Kenora Chiefs Advisory, Shoal Lake #40 First Nation for support during this time and Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre for the funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Alex, Josh, Justin, Nathan, Daryle and Tyrique.
