Joan Edie
On August 1st, surrounded by all her family, Joan Margaret Edie (Ouellette) passed from this world to start her new journey with her late husband Dr. James Edie. Mom was born in Kenora on November 8, 1927 to Frances and Joseph Ouellette. She is survived by her brother Gerry Ouellette (Estelle), and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Nuala (Rick Welbanks, Allyson (Phil), Isla & Malcolm Schneider), Rob, (Patti & Hannah), Mary (Michael & Micaela McIsaac), Brad (Malorie (Matt Cyr), Connor (Natalie) & Ben (Erika)), Chris (Charlotte, Bryce, Carleigh (Matthew Weise)), Jane (Paul, Jayme (Emily), Sydney & Isaiah Warkentin), Margot (Greg & Ryan Forsythe) and Trish (Kent Gate & Motei Demers) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joan trained as a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital and worked as a flight nurse with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1952-1956, where she met Jim. Mom enjoyed every summer at her camp on Longbow Lake where we had many family gatherings; she also enjoyed reading, knitting and travelling with family. Mom and Dad were lucky enough to visit the Scotland Edies on a few occasions.
Mom was a proud and dignified woman with a strong faith and a quick wit.
Many thanks to Mike Limerick, NP and the exceptional staff at Pinecrest for their kindness, care and compassion.
Funeral will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, August 7th at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Private internment with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
